Is life like a box of Godiva?

September 14, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The talented freshman trotting filly Godiva Hall will look to continue her local dominance in the $200,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes final at The Red Mile on Thursday night. Owned by Stephen and Eugene Oldford and the North South Partnership #2, the Like A Prayer lass has proven too strong for her competition thus far in the new KYSS format, which offers three $50,000 preliminary legs and a $200,000 final for each freshman division this year.

Trained by Pete Foley and driven in each of her local appearances by Dave Palone, Godiva Hall won leg one after being reserved in mid pack until the final turn, skipped the second leg and enjoyed an effortless 1:57.3 win on the lead in leg three. She will start from post-position one in Thursday’s race.

Another filly from the first crop of Like A Prayer, DM Stable’s Sun Sentinel, won the middle leg for trainer Bobby Brower in Godiva Hall’s absence. She, along with Charmaine AS and Likeavirgin Lindy, (you guessed it, Like A Prayers) who have both been in close attendance each week, will offer their best efforts against the favorite. Linda’s First Love, Vamp Hall and Victory Love round out the field of seven for Thursday’s final.

The Red Mile is heading into the final month of the 2006 race meet and the stakes action is gathering momentum. The $200,000 KYSS finals continue with the 2YO filly pace on Friday and 2YO colt pace Saturday. Sunday evening showcases the $234,500 Moni Maker 3YO filly trot final, featuring undefeated Hambo Oaks winner Passionate Glide and Four Starz Lindy, last week's elimination winners. Sunday also launches the John Simpson Memorial stakes with the 2YO colt trot and 3YO filly pace. (Red MIle)
