ISS action at Hoosier

The $12,000 fourth leg of Indiana Sire Stakes for sophomore colt and gelding pacers attracted two splits Saturday, June 10 at Hoosier Park. Competitors looked to secure enough points to lock up a place in the $100,000 final June 24. Hat-ies RC and Intendto’s punched their tickets to the final with impressive performances.

In the first contest Hat-ies RC bounced back from a second-place effort in his sire stakes debut May 27 and wired the field with a 1:54.2 mile. Casey Victory and Ricky Macomber Jr. finished nearly five lengths back in second and Eash Racing Stables’ Ironclad Alibi was third over the wet, but good track.

“I figured I had to be at least fourth. I wanted to get in, and he’s as good as anybody,” said owner-trainer-driver Billy Downs of competing in the final. “It’s going to be interesting.”

Intendto’s Majesty, who handed Hat-ies RC his first defeat in the third leg of ISS action, collected the second split with a 1:54 display. With trainer Neil Coleman in the bike, the His Mattjesty gelding raced last at the half before catching cover and sprinting home in :27.4 to win by three lengths. Sun Set Acres Troy and Jay Cross were second and Townline Roll On and Don Eash were third.

“He was hanging in the turn, so I had to chase him up a little bit. He had plenty of pace,” noted Coleman. “There are five or six in there that, if they get a trip, can win the final. It’s not going to be easy.”
