Indiana Downs played host to two divisions of freshman pacing colts Tuesday, Sept. 5. In each $8,000 contest the favorites were beaten as Gott-N-Milk and Yankee Rebel scored victories.

In the first split Gott-N-Milk and Josh Sutton claimed their third win of the season in a 1:57.3 effort. The Brian Stephens owned and trained Laredo Spur colt finished two lengths in front of fourth-choice Full Of Cinnamon and Joe Putnam. Favorite Search Engine, with Mark O’Mara in the bike, finished third.

Starting from the rail in the second division, Yankee Rebel and Joe Essig Jr. wired the field to win by a head in 1:59.3. Mayflowermoonshine and Putnam were a narrowly-beaten second, while favorite Fun Time and Pat Berry rounded out the trifecta.

Yankee Rebel is trained by Steve Brannan, who co-owns the Electric Yankee gelding with Hal Luebker. The freshman is a half-brother to Prodigal Two, a 1:51.1 winner with earnings exceeding $106,000. It was the second win for Yankee Rebel in five starts.
