ISS action continues at Indiana Downs

Indiana Downs played host to the second round of Indiana Sires Stakes action for freshman filly pacers Monday, October 5, carding two $30,000 contests. Sawgrass Farms’ Electric Presence captured the first division in 1:55.4 while Steve Carter’s Dark Alley Sally claimed victory with a 1:56 performance in the second split.

 

Electric Presence and driver Sam Widger started from the second tier in the first contest, a bulky field of 11. The pair would race off the pace through opening fractions of :27.4 and :56.2 as Sara’s Lucky Charm and Hoponit took turns on the lead. Racing to three quarters (1:26.2), favorite Scruuppti and Trace Tetrick were out and moving, catching cover behind Fakeutu Bluegrass before taking the lead at the top of the stretch. But it was Widger and the third choice that would reach the wire first, closing with a :28.3 last quarter to win by a length. Scruuppti finished second while Lets Go B B and Ricky Macomber were third. The Electric Yankee filly, out of Cambest mare Ravishing Hall, is trained by Nelson Willis.

 

Steve Carter’s Dark Alley Sally lived up to her favored status Monday night with a victory in the $30,000 second division. The Third Straight filly started from the rail and crossed the wire first, winning by nearly two lengths for Tetrick. The freshman was shuffled to fifth early before moving three-wide at the half (:56.4) to take command. Gd Lana and Andy Shelter would challenge on the outside racing through the final turn (1:25.4), but Dark Alley Sally kicked clear in the stretch. Miss Sweetness and Macomber closed late for second while Gd Lana rounded out the trifecta. Carter trains the filly, which he owns with his wife, Tammy.

 

Favorites Rosemary’s Secret and Joe Cat picked up wins in the second leg of The Expression trotting series Monday at Indiana Downs. Trainer Ross Leonard steered Keep It A Secret filly Rosemary’s Secret to a three-length score in the $8,000 first division, stopping the clock in 1:58.4. Joe Cat and Macomber nipped Steel Away and Jason Dillander at the wire, winning the second split for trainer Ron Burke by a head in 2:00.
