Freshman filly trotters and pacers took center stage at Indiana Downs Wednesday, July 19. Two divisions of trotters and five pacing splits competed in the second round of Indiana Sire Stakes competition at the Shelbyville oval, with each race carrying an $8,000 purse. Several first leg winners duplicated their efforts Wednesday evening.

The pacing splits kicked off with plenty of excitement as Maddy Seelster and Ms-Ayse Bluegrass raced to a dead heat in 1:57.1, the fastest division of the night. The victory was the fifth in six starts for MaddySeelster, a Southsider filly owned and trained by Moses Beeman. Dr. Luel Overstreet’s Dorunrun Bluegrass homebred collected her fourth win in six starts.

“I thought she was beat,” said driver Rick Reisert of Maddy Seelster. “That other filly came back to us and my filly just kept trying. She wasn’t giving up.”

Summer In Fiji made it two straight in ISS competition, winning in 1:58.1 for driver Pat Berry. The Whitefish Falls filly is trained by Mark P’pool. Sneaky Yankee also picked up her second win in as many starts, pacing the mile in 1:57.2 under the guidance of Jay Cross. Dave White conditions the Electric Yankee freshman.

Martha’s Revenge rebounded from a fourth-place effort in the first leg to capture her division in 1:57.3. Trainer Jim Dailey sat behind the Dontgetinmyway filly in the contest. In the final split of the night, Andy Shetler and Mans Diamond cruised by open lengths and stopped the clock in 1:57.3. The daughter of Mandretti is trained by Tobias Troyer and owned by Marvin R. Miller of Goshen, Ind.

The two trotting divisions were held prior to the card as non-betting events. ABC Bay Bee bounced back from a second-place effort in the first leg to win in 2:03. The ABC Garland filly was driven by trainer Joe Putnam for owner Larry Miller. In the second split New And Notable filly Pretty New duplicated her effort of a week ago for owner and trainer Verlin Yoder, winning in 2:01.4.
