Party News, a 5-year-old Party At Artsplace mare, out of the Niatross mare Your In The News, went wire-to-wire in a season’s best 2:01.2, and won the $7,500 Featured Open II pace for the Ultra Racing Stable at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday night.
Capably driven by reinsman Ray Fisher, Jr., Party News, leaving from the pylons in the field of seven, made every pole a winning one for his second win of the 2009 campaign over a track rated “good.” Setting fractions of :30, 1:01.3 and 1:32.4 to the three-quarter mark, Party News and Fisher beat second place finishers Kermunn and driver Ron Beback, Jr., by one-half length. Blue Rock Bash (Robert Verney) came in the show spot. Trained by Bob Gruber, the $3,750 winner’s share of the purse put Party News’ season’s bankroll at $8,625, and at $85,860, lifetime. It was the first win of the night for Fisher, who made it to the winners’ circle three more times to lead all drivers. Besides Party News ($3.50) Fisher also steered home Discover Gold ($11.60), Supreme Ruler ($19.40), and Ramirez Blue Chip ($3.80), who won the finale. Two other drivers had multiple wins: Tom Agosti won with Precious Revenge ($21.80) with an excellent drive from the eight hole, and then scored with Control Freak ($6.00) in the seventh race, and Ron Beback, Jr., brought in Clooney Drummond ($3.80) in the fifth and Stobie Two ($3.90) in the sixth.
