It's Windsong's Legacy

October 09, 2004 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Windsong's Legacy became the frst trotting Triple Crown winner since Super Bowl in 1972 when he captured the second heat of the Kentucky Futurity in 1:54 Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile.

Windsong's Legacy won the rail post for the second heat but got away third as Yankee Slide surprisingly took the field to the first quarter in :27. Yankee Slide, driven by Brian Sears, got to the half in :53.2 before Trond Smedshammer pulled first-over with Windsong's Legacy and powered to the front.

In the stretch drive Smedshammer hit Windsong's Legacy a few times with the whip to keep his mind on business, but then the duo coasted across the wire, easy and historic winners.

Justice Hall enjoyed a second-over trip and finished second while Rocky Balboa was third.

Smedshanmer announced after the race that Windsong's Legacy's racing career is over; he will not be heading to the Breeders Crown. The son of Conway Hall out of a Prakas mare will be retiring to stud duty for next year, although breeding farms are still vying for the horse.
