Jackson fighting eviction

According to published reports, the Jackson County (Mich.) Fair Board has begun eviction proceedings against Jackson Harness Raceway, which has raced at the fairgrounds for six decades.



The raceway operates in exchange for at least $75,000 of its simulcast revenue, and it is that figure that the Fair Board would like to raise. They would like the track to increase its annual payment to at least $80,000.



The track filed a petition earlier this week for a trial to fight the eviction, and that must now take place within eight weeks.



"We've paid more than $4 million in leasing payments since 1948 to offer simulcast and live betting at the fairgrounds," said the track's Dan Rakieten in a written statement. "It's about being treated fairly."



Last year, MTR Gaming purchased a 90-percent interest in Jackson Raceway and their are future plans to build a new track by 2007.
