Jag dq'd in Elitlopp

June 22, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Jag de Bellouet and Lets Go, who finished first and second, respectively, in the 2006 Elitlopp final at Solvalla in late May, have tested positive and been disqualified. The sad and almost tragic development has resulted in a change of the result, which gives the 5-year-old Swedish-bred, trained and owned Conny Nobell (Pearsall Hanover) the prestigious victory.

Conny Nobell has with this repeated the unique effort of the 2003 winner From Above (Zoot Suit) to win the Kriterium, the Derby and the Elitlopp, as a 3, 4 and 5 year old. Conny Nobell is trained by the Goops and is owned in partnership between Björn Goop and the previous champion trainer-driver Veijo Hesikanen.
Second place in the Elitlopp now goes to the Thai Tanic (Viking Kronos), also trained by Björn and Olle Goop and it was Olle Goop, who drove him in the final.

Jag de Bellouet tested positive for Diclofenac, which is an anti-inflammatory used for arthritis, including inflammation of the heel (the pills are called Voltaren in Sweden). Lets Go tested positive for Etacryn, which is used to treat heart and blood pressure problems in humans. Etacryn is not registered in Sweden.

The initial lab tests were done in Sweden, and were then sent to France where they were confirmed.
This is the second time this year the French champion Jag de Bouellet has been disqualified after winning a major European race. Last January he was taken down after a positive test for a different drug.

By virtue of his Elitlopp victory, Jag de Bouellet had been offered an invitation to compete in the United States in the Breeders Crown and Nat Ray at the Meadowlands next month.
