Jag DQs in France

Kazire de Guez captured the $179,711 Prix des Ducs Normandie at the Caen track Tuesday in France, defeating Jag de Bellouet, who made a break in the homestretch and not only lost the race, but also lost his chances of gaining an invitation to the Elitllop at Solvalla racetrack in Stockholm, Sweden, May 28.

Jag de Bellouet seemed to have control of the race after taking the lead mid-way through the 2,450 meter (1 1/2 mile) event. But he started having a tough time in the homestretch when Kazire de Guez came out of the pocket late to challenge Jag. That’s when Jag went off stride, which, under French rules, caused him to be disqualified from the race.

The winner, who is trained and driven by Jean Michel Bazire, was timed in a mile rate of 1:56.2.

Solvalla representatives, who were not present for the race, had ambitions to get Jag for the Elitlopp, but will probably have to give in now. The golden chestnut mare Lady d´Auvrecy (Dorenzo), made another great performance and ended second ahead of the young Nijinski Blue.
