Jake's Nordic takes Open

For the second week in a row, Dan and Tom Courtemansche's Jake's Nordic won the $24,000 Open Handicap trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, Nov. 30.



Last week Jake's Nordic turned in a rare victory coming from behind. This time Tim Curtin put the fast-leaver right into the lead and the 6-year-old Michigan-bred gelding rolled to his fastest win of the year turning back seven foes in 1:56.1. Columbus Hanover (Kevin Sizer) shadowed the winner from the start but could get no closer than second.



The win was the sixth of the season for Jake's Nordic who now has won $115,110 this campaign and $470,516 lifetime.



Mighty Moses turned in a big mile for Jim Morand in winning the sub-feature $16,500 winners-over trot in 1:56.1. Morand moved to the outside after a :28 quarter and followed cover until mid-backstretch when Mighty Moses moved three wide heading to the final turn to vie with Orillia Bam Bam (Brad Hanners). In the lane, it was no contest as Mighty Moses won for fun. Orillia Bam Bam held off Getinthephoto (Ross Wolfenden) for second money.



The win was Morand’s 6,997th of his career. A recent addition to the Ken Wood Stable trained by Eric Ell, Mighty Moses was second in his first start and now a winner for his new owners Woods, Dittmar and Iaquinta.



Frank Milby came on strongly in the stretch driving 10-1 Print It for a 1:54.1 victory. The 3-year-old The Panderosa gelding is owned by Tom Kelly, former World Series winning manager of the Minnesota Twins. Jaguar Hall (Brad Hanners) led from the start and finished second. Victor Vuitton N (Bobby Myers) took the show position. (Dover Downs)
