Jamieson Stable deep

May 03, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A major component to the success of any team is depth and there is once again plenty of that in the Carl Jamieson stable this season.

In this Saturday night’s second leg of the Diplomat Pacing Series for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Woodbine, the veteran horseman has opted to give round-one winner Reserve Forces the week off. In his place, Jamieson will send out Twin B Impact for his first start of the season.

The son of Camotion-Classie Girl enjoyed moderate success in his rookie campaign and is one that Jamieson feels could really step up his game this season.

“He showed a lot of talent last year, but ran into some colt soreness that kept him from being at his best,” reports Jamieson. “I’m really happy with how he has come back this year and one that I expect big improvement from.”

Twin B Impact enters Saturday’s race off of two qualifying races at Mohawk. The most recent effort was a 1:57.1 victory which followed up a ninth-place finish in his first try on April 20th.

“He made a break at the start of his first qualifier,” recalls Jamieson. “Jody (Jamieson) said that he thought he saw something and just made a bad step and went off stride. It was nothing major and last time we just pulled up his hopples and took his head up a bit. He was a lot better the second time.”

Twin B Impact has drawn post two in Saturday’s first division which goes as race one on the program. Jody Jamieson is listed to drive and has also been named on the highly-touted Tell All from the Blair Burgess stable.

Father Carl will also send out MG Energik in the third race, second division. The Quebec-bred son of Passailed-Comtesse Sarah finished third in last week’s opening leg behind the red-hot In The Irons, who will also bypass this weekend’s second round.

MG Energik overcame post seven last week at odds of 27-1, in what was just his second start of the campaign.

“I was really pleased with how he raced last week,” says Jamieson. “He’s not a very big colt, but he is very game. This series and the Flamboro Breeders Stake is all he has here (in Ontario). Most of his stakes races are in Quebec. He was pretty much the second best colt there last year. He seems faster this year and I like his grittiness, so I’m hoping he can have a good year there.”

Jody Jamieson is also scheduled to drive MG Energik who will start from post four on Saturday night.

Reserve Forces gets this week off after posting a powerful 1:52.4 victory in the first leg of the series last weekend. It was the first start of the 2007 season for the son of Real Desire-Western Reserve, who was a $40,000 yearling purchase at the 2004 Lexington-Select Yearling Sale.

The colt showed plenty of promise in just four starts as a rookie before having his season cut short by an injury.

“He had a small stress line in his sesamoid,” says Jamieson. “We don’t know exactly how it happened. He may have kicked a wall or something, but it was enough that we stopped with him. It was the type of thing where he just needed to rest and let it heal.

“He showed tremendous speed last year and we’ve got him staked up to everything this season. We gave him this week off because we want to manage his schedule and not overdo it with him too early. He has a beautiful gait and doesn’t wear any boots or a headpole. I think he is the real thing.”

With his win in the first leg, Reserve Forces will advance to the $76,000 (Est.) Diplomat Series Final at Woodbine on Saturday, May 12. (WEG)
