Jamieson talks Metro and 'Derby'

Driver Jody Jamieson is certainly excited for Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack. Once again, Jamieson will be re-united with Hypnotic Blue Chip in the $50,000 Canadian Pacing Derby elimination as well as Mystician and Up The Credit in the $40,000 Metro Stakes eliminations.

Hypnotic Blue Chip has drawn post three for trainer Kevin McDermott and owner Francis Azur.

The son of Art Major finished a very game second to Shark Gesture in the $702,500 William R. Haughton Memorial in his most recent outing but what was even more impressive was the week before as Hypnotic Blue Chip defeated Shark Gesture to win his U.S Pacing Championship division in world record time of 1:47.2.

"This one (Hypnotic Blue Chip) will be the best one that I have driven in the 'Derby' this far. He's been a pleasure to drive, we got a world record on 'Hambo' day and its been an absolute thrill," Jamieson told WEG's media department.

"He just seems to go, he won at Northfield in (1):49.4 as he pleased. I don't even think I touched him with the whip at Northfield and that's such a huge trip. He's the total package," Jamieson commented.

Hypnotic Blue Chip has seasonal earnings of $493,685 good for career earnings of $1,066,093.

Jamieson is also very optimistic about Mystician's chances in the $40,000 Metro Stakes elimination from post eight as well as his father Carl's pupil, Up The Credit.

Mystician is coming off a second place effort in the $300,000 Battle of Waterloo for trainer Jeff Gillis. The son of Camluck was a $45,000 yearling purchase and according to Jamieson he appears to be following in the same footsteps as his full sister Lucks Mistress.

WEG's media department asked Jamieson if the two were comparable, Jamieson replied "Absolutely."

"He's been a real good horse all year, he's got the eight hole in his elimination so he's up against it but we just need a little bit of luck and he's a contender, absolutely," Jamieson stated.

Mystician has freshman earnings of $164,750 for owners Ken Henwood, Mac Nichol, Gerald Stay and Jeff Gillis.

Jamieson regards Up The Credit as a "great horse." Jamieson's father Carl trains the son of Western Terror who has a career best of 1:51.4 from just three career starts.

Up The Credit has drawn post three in his elimination and Jamieson believes his best days are ahead of him.

"He's a great horse, he's a great horse. If he gets put away reasonably well this year before he gets hurt or something like that happens he will be a great three-year-old. No question about it."

Carl Jamieson owns Up The Credit along with Joanne Morrison, Brian Paquet and Thomas Kyron.
