February 11, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

January Davies, 31, a harness racing TV producer and videographer, died on Saturday, February 10, in New Jersey. Davies was born January 9, 1976, six minutes after her twin brother Beau.

Davies, a resident of Acton, Ontario, graduated from Mohawk College in Ontario with an arts degree and pursued a career in television production. She worked at Woodbine Entertainment Group for six years in the television department.

Davies was the producer of the weekly harness racing show that aired on The Score across Canada, and worked on video features for stake races, press conferences and special events.

Davies spent two years producing the racing feed from Lexington, Kentucky’s Red Mile, a time-honoured destination for those who love harness racing. She produced the racetrack coverage in 2004 for the final leg of the first trotting Triple Crown winner in 32 years and again in 2006 when Glidemaster, owned by her close friends Blair and Karin Burgess, also annexed the Triple Crown.

Davies worked behind the camera, in the graphics department and as an archivist for The Meadowlands Racetrack television department. She also archived the video library of the Hambletonian Society and edited the video that accompanies the Hambletonian exhibit at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, New York.

Davies took special pride in producing the year-end awards video for the prestigious U.S. Harness Writers' Dan Patch Awards.

She was predeceased by her grandmother, Jacqueline Hillman in 2000, and her twin brother, Beau in 2001. She is survived by her mother, Callie Davies-Gooch of East Windsor, NJ, a long time employee of the Canadian Trotting Association and now the Hambletonian Society.

January is also survived by sister November, beloved niece Winter and father, Brent Davies, all of Mississauga, Ontario, and many, many grieving relatives and friends who will miss the light of her smile.

A remembrance service will be held Tuesday, February 13, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Crabiel Funeral Home, 202 Stockton Street, Hightstown, NJ (609-448-3456). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, 16575 Carey Rd, Westfield, IN, 46074. (Harness Racing Communications press release)
