Jennys Jammies wins at Scarborough

August 21, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Jennys Jammies equaled one of Scarborough Downs’ oldest track records on Friday as the 4-year-old mare cruised to the finish line in 2:00 with driver Rob Dinning calling the shots behind the Fred Ward, Jr. trainee.

Dinning controlled the action from the get-go as he deftly avoided congestion and confusion by barreling headlong to the lead through Scarborough’s first turn. The tandem were never seriously threatened from that point forward, surviving a cursory late stretch challenge from the pocket-sitting Ironhorse (Leigh Fitch) en route to eventual enshrinement in the local record books.

Scarborough’s track record for 4-year-old trotting mares was set in 1993 by D D’s Copter and driver Raymond Tremblay -- a monumental effort for that era of state of Maine harness racing -- and had stood the test of time for fully 16 seasons.

Driver Dinning held the hot hand at Scarborough on Friday, winning four races from the nine-race program to follow up on his three-win performance on Thursday evening. Dinning currently resides in second place on the Scarborough Downs leaderboard with 115 seasonal wins and now trails perennial powerhouse Drew Campbell by 23 tallies. (Scarborough)
