Jereme’s Jet moved into the lead off a :55.1 first half, then sprinted away from the field with a :53.1 final half and captured the $50,000 Review Stakes at the Illinois State Fair in a stakes and lifetime-best record of 1:48.1. Dave Magee was in the bike as the Western Hanover colt scored his third win of the year in eight starts.
“He’s had a few problems, but nothing major,” said trainer Tom Harmer after the race, “but we just haven’t been able to get it together. He’s gone some good miles this year, but nothing like he’s suppose to. We just kept at it and kept treating him and hoping he would rebound and do what we thought he could do and show everybody that he is capable of doing what most of the people expected him to do.”
Harmer added that Jereme’s Jet, who is owned by Jolene Leahy’s Genesis Racing Stable, will make one more start, either at Maywood Park or DuQuoin, before heading for Delaware, Ohio, and the main goal of the Little Brown Jug.

Great Success tied the stakes record of 1:56.1 in winning the $55,000 Greyhound for 2-year-oldcolt and gelding trotters with Mike Lachance in the bike for trainer Ron Gurfein. The Self Possessed colt is co-owned by Gurfein and Rosalie and Jerry Silva and was making just his second career start after finishing third to Donato Hanover in a 2-year-old event at the Meadowlands in early July.
Rhonda T, a home-bred daughter of Credit Winner owned by the Doug Ackerman Stable and driven by son-in-law Homer Hochstetler captured the $44,000 Review Stakes 2-year-old filly trot in 1:58.4. This was her second win of the year, fresh off her win in the Geers Stakes at Tioga Downs.
Hare Royal Highness, with Dave Magee up, won a photo finish with Artistic Ashley and Sam Widger and captured the $30,000 Review 3-year-old filly pace in a career-best 1:53. Mark Behl of nearby Lincoln, Ill., owns and trains the daughter of Jenna’s Beach Boy.
In an Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes for pacing mares 4 years old and up, Loyal Opposition easily won in a stakes record 1:50 with Andy Miller driving. The win put the 6-year-old daughter of Cole Muffler over the $200,000 mark in earnings this year for owner Daniel Waxman.
