Jereme's Jet qualifies

Freshman pacing champ Jereme's Jet qualified at Hawthorne on Wednesday morning, and the 1:52.3 mile was everything that trainer Tom Harmer could have hoped for, and more. With Harmer in the bike, the 3-year-old Breeders Crown champ posted an impressive 16 ¾-length victory. The son of Western Hanover went right to the top, coasting through fractions of :29, :56.3 and 1:26 before smoking the final quarter in :26.3.

"It was pretty awesome I thought,” Harmer said. “He had never been on the track at Hawthorne, and I really didn’t know what to expect. He was a typical colt, looking at everything, gawking, and carrying on. I was very open-minded going into it. If he felt good and acted good, my plan was to let him pick up the pace.
He did even better than I could have hoped, so at the end, I let him roll. It was outstanding.”

A winner of six of seven starts as a 2-year-old, Jeremes Jet has already banked just over $1 million. He counts the Metro Pace, the Governor's Cup and the Breeders Crown amongst his victories, with his only defeat coming by a scant head margin by Western Cyclone in the Breeders Crown elim.

“He’s come back better than we could have hoped off the long layoff,” Harmer said. “He hasn’t lost that aggressiveness, and is just such a smart horse. All the plugs are pulled, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic year. There are so many ups and downs in this game, but we’re ready for the ride, and look forward to whatever he’s going to give us.”

Harmer indicated that the team will “back off” on Jereme’s Jet for a week, before getting him cranked up for his sophomore debut in the $300,000 Burlington Stakes at Woodbine on June 3.
