Jereme's Jet soars

Return Home
November 26, 2005 | Print View

Jereme?s Jet, the early leader who was shuffled back on the inside, slipped to the outside at the head of the stretch and swept into the lead in deep stretch to win the $575,400 Breeders Crown 2-year-old colt and gelding pace in 1:52.1 for Paul Macdonell. Western Cyclone and David Miller rallied to be second, overtaking Western Ace and Cat Manzi before the wire.

Macdonell hustled Jereme?s Jet into the lead before the :28 opening quarter, then relinquished the lead to Palone Ranger and brian Sears before the :55.1 half. Western Cyclone and Shark Gesture provided the outer flow, boxing in Jereme?s Jet as the field hit the three-quarters in 1:24. But as the field turned for home Macdonell found room to slip out and the son of Western Hanover sprinted into the lead, scoring his sixth win in seven starts this year for Genesis Racing Stable (Jolene Leahy) and trainer Tom Harmer.

Macdonell said he had no problems with letting Palone Ranger take the lead away from him at the half. ?I figured he?d get an aggressive drive tonight and I just wanted to be up close near the front end,? Macdonell said. ?It looked like the speed?s been all up front all night. I thought if we were within range at the head of the stretch, it would give him a chance to win it.?
