Jereme's Jet tests positive

December 27, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Illinois Racing Board projects manager Mickey Ezzo has confirmed that Jereme's Jet had a positive test for the Class 3 drug pyrilamine following the 3-year-old colt's win in the $250,000 Windy City Pace in mid November at Maywood Park, resulting in the loss of purse and a $2,500 fine for trainer Tom Harmer. Ezzo told harnessracing.com Wednesday morning that both Harmer and owner Jolene Leahy have appealed the ruling.

Jereme's Jet won the Windy City in 1:52.2, his sixth victory of the year in 14 starts. The 2005 Dan Patch Award champion as a 2 year old increased his seasonal earnings to more than $300,000 with the win that came in his final start this year. If the ruling stands, My Boy David will be elevated to first-place in the Windy City.

This is the second major pyrilamine positive in Illinois in recent months. Leading older pacer Holborn Hanover also tested positive for the prohibited substance after his American National victory at Balmoral Park in August. Trainer Brett Robinson was also fined $2,500 for that incident, as well as a loss of purse and Lis Mara being moved up to first. The ruling is also under appeal.
