Jereme's Jet wires field

November 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Jereme’s Jet went wire to wire, holding of even-money co-favorite My Boy David at the wire, and captured the $250,000 Windy City Pace final in 1:52.2 Friday night at Maywood Park. Dave Magee was in the bike as the Western Hanover colt cut fractions of :26.2, :55.1 and 1:23.2 en route to his sixth win of the year in 14 starts.

Also bet down to even money, Jereme’s Jet looked like an F-16 taking off as he rushed into the lead in the first turn while My Boy David and Andy Miller got away second from post one. On the backstretch the second time Ab’s Beach Boy and Dale Hiteman mounted a first-over challenge but couldn’t sustain the effort on the final turn. In the stretch Miller ducked My Boy David to the passing lane, but he could only get to the winner’s neck before the finish line came up. Royal Man and Mike Oosting slipped past Bono’s Best and Duke Sugg in deep stretch to take third.

The $125,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted Jereme’s Jet’s earnings this year to $302,820 and $1,342,196 lifetime for Genesis Racing Stable and trainer Tom Harmer, who is in Italy.

For Magee it was the first Windy City victory for the Hall of Famer.
“It’s pretty nice, coming at this stage of my career,” Magee said.

Assistant trainer Joe Frasure said he was optimistic about Jereme’s Jet’s chances when he acted frisky in his warm-up.
“When he’s like that, you know you’re going to get a good race out of him,” Frasure said.

Frasure added that this was the last race of the year for Jereme’s Jet and that he will be shipped to Florida for the winter where plans for his 4-year-old year will be made.
