Jeremy's Successor takes Yonkers open pace

July 25, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Favored Jeremy's Successor (Ryan Anderson) took Saturday night matters into his own hands early, winning Yonkers Raceway's $48,000 Open Handicap Pace.

"Jeremy," leaving from post position No. 5, stepped around pylon-squatting Dave Ain't Here (Stephane Bouchard) well before a :27.3 opening quarter-mile. He found a 56-second intermission before Eagle Real One (Jeff Gregory), trying his luck from off the pace this evening, came first-up.

That one never could get close going toward a 1:24.2 three-quarters, and Jeremy's Successor owned a length-and-a-quarter lead into the lane. From there, he needed only to hold off Dave Ain't Here.

"Jeremy" defeated "Dave" by a couple of lengths in 1:52.1, with Real Nice (Jordan Stratton)--last week's 22-1 upset winner and this week's 32-1 rank outsider--closing to snap third. Pandora's Sox (Billy Dobson) and Eagle Real One earned the minor spoils.

It was "Jeremy's" first local victory in four Westchester work nights.

For Jeremy's Successor, a 5-year-old Mach Three gelding owned by Andrea Ann Hill and trained by Dean Eckley, he returned $5.50 for his sixth win in 14 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $37.60, with the triple returning $482. (Yonkers)
