Got 'Er Done, the last foal from notable stallion Storm Damage, will race for new connections in his next start at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino. The sophomore gelding, a three-time winner in Indiana Sire Stakes action this season, has been purchased by the Burke Racing Stable following his second-place effort Saturday in the fourth and final $25,000 ISS preliminary leg. Trainer Jerry Smith, who owned Got ‘Er Done with his wife, Betty, and daughter, Christine Hecht, will retain an ownership stake in the homebred.
"I kind of hated to do it because he is the last Storm Damage, but you have to sell them when they’re good,” said Smith, who also campaigned the sire. “They like good horses and they’re willing to pay a good price for him. I hope he’ll do as well for them as he has for us.”
Got 'Er Done, a five-time winner this season with more than $60,000 in earnings, will become the second entry in the ISS sophomore pacing colt ranks for the Burke Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables and Frank Baldachino, who also own Dream Work colt Evening Job, a 1:53.1 winner Saturday at Hoosier Park. The gelding will be transferred to the Burke Stable Monday.
“These two colts (Evening Job and Got ‘Er Done) have separated themselves from the group,” trainer Ron Burke commented. “Jerry has done a nice job bringing this horse along slowly.”
The connections of the two pacers have doubled their chances at victory in the $150,000 ISS final, slated for July 11 at Hoosier Park. Evening Job has won three times in sires stakes action, dropping the third preliminary leg to his new stable mate. Burke said the connections are always looking for opportunities to invest in the Indiana program, and is surprised more outfits haven’t done the same. “The Indiana program is outstanding,” he added. “The horses are reasonably priced and you have the aged program here, which is an added benefit.” As for Smith, he will continue to enjoy the benefits of ownership in Got ‘Er Done while focusing on three yearlings he is bringing along for next season.
