Jersey Girls Series underway at Meadowlands

April 01, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The magic number was 1:51.3. That’s what it took to win a Jersey Girls leg at the Meadowlands Thursday night. In the first leg, LR Dancing Dream prevailed with Idol and Dream’s Bar close behind. Laughandbehappy, who was racing on Lasix for the first time, followed up her Night Styles triumph the previous week with her victory in a Jersey Girls leg.

LR Dancing Dream, a 4-year-old mare by Ft. Apache Hanover bred in Illinois, was the 4-5 betting choice and started from post seven. Ron Pierce sent Gordyyy’s Pet to the front, secured the point in :26.4 first quarter, and then rebuffed Andy Miller’s move with Four Starz Molly until just past the :54.4 half. That’s when Brian Sears made a sweeping move to the front with LR Dancing Dream.

LR Dancing Dream stayed game and as the first-over Catawba and Four Starz Molly tired, Idol (Dan Dube) and Dream’s Bar (David Miller) rallied, but ran out of racetrack before they could threaten LR Dancing Dream.

Lou Pena trains LR Dancing Dream for the KDM Stables Corp. The Jersey Girls leg score was the mare’s third win in 12 starts this season, and the winning time was a new mark.

In the second Jersey Girls split, John Campbell made the usual Meadowlands move to the front just past the :27.1 quarter, clearing when released by Sears and Mid-Western Jatelo. The race was effectively over from that point on as Laughandbehappy won her fifth race in seven starts and Mid-Western Jatelo held on for second. Harper Lee, driven by George Brennan, raced first-over but hung tough to finish third.

Eric Cherry’s Let It Ride Stable, Robert Cooper Stables and Jerry Silva own Laughandbehappy, a 4-year-old mare by Badlands Hanover. Tony Alagna trains the mare.
