Jet favored at Maywood

Return Home
November 11, 2006 | Print View

Jereme’s Jet, the 2005 Dan Patch winner as the sport’s top freshman pacing colt, and the world champion My Boy David have been installed as the co-favorites for the upcoming $250,000 Windy City Pace at Maywood Park. Also to be raced on the Friday, Nov. 17 card is the $100,000 Galt Memorial for second-season male trotters, the $105,000 Abe Lincoln for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings, and the $100,000 Cinderella Stakes for sophomore pacing fillies.

In Friday’s draw for post positions, shown on closed-circuit TV on-track and throughout the state’s OTB parlors, My Boy David drew the coveted number one post, which is winning at a 24 percent clip this year on the Chicago circuit’s half-mile oval.

Regular driver Andy Miller is expected to return to the Windy City to guide My Boy David, who will open at 8-5 odds. The Illinois-bred was second best in this year’s $1 Meadowlands Pace, behind Artistic Fella, earlier this summer, prior to his 1:47.4 world record mile for a 3-year-old pacer, posted at the Springfield, Ill. State Fair.

Jereme’s Jet is the 3-2 slight morning line favorite and drew the number three post for the Tom Harmer Stable. Hall of Famer Dave Magee will guide the talented colt, who last year captured the three of the most prestigious 2-year-old stakes, the Breeders Crown, Metro and Governor’s Cup, en route to being honored as the best freshman pacer in North America. This year, the homebred son of Western Hanover won the Meadowlands Pace consolation, the Review Stakes at Springfield, and a Hayes Memorial Stakes at Du Quoin, Ill. for Genesis Racing of Plainfield, Ill.

The 5-1 early third choice is Bono Bests, for trainer Ivan Sugg, who shares ownership of the Pro Bono Best colt with Blue Chip Partners. Bono Best is a 10-time winner this year, and has won more than $194,000.

Royal Man (8-1) drew the number two post foe the 24th Windy City Pace, Civil Attack (12-1) landed the number four slot, and Abs Beach Boy (10-1) will start to his right. Jandj Art (25-1) will leave from the outside, number seven post in Maywood Park’s showcase event of the year, which is slated to be the fifth race, with a 9 p.m. (CST) approximate post. (Maywood)
