Jet flies in 1:55.1 at YR

Neither rain nor sleet nor dark of night nor the dreaded eight hole could stop millionaire Jereme's Jet from putting seven rivals to bed in Saturday night's $35,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway.

With Tony Morgan doing his usual honors for trainer Tom Harmer, "Jereme"--the even-money  favorite--quickly overcame his impost, going up and over 17-10 second choice Psilvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis) before the :28.2 opening quarter-mile.

Morgan then slammed on the anti-lock brakes, as he and Jereme's Jet found the intermission in :59.1, ending any and all suspense. Since the New York State Racing and Wagering Board required the pair to go around once more,  Jereme's Jet found three-quarters in 1:27.3 and the wire a measured three-quarters of a length to the good in 1:55.1.

Psilvuheartbreaker chased from the pocket and settled for second, with Cam's Fool (Jeff Gregory), Armbro Cayenne (Stephane Bouchard) and Apatchee N (Greg Grismore) also sloshing their way to wampum.

Jereme's Jet, a 4-year-old son of Western Hanover, returned $4.10 for his fourth win (second consecutivie) in six seasonal starts. His career cash now exceeds $1.4 million for owner Genesis Racing Stable.

The exacta paid $9.70, the triple returned $37.80 and the superfecta (first, second, fourth and third wagering choices) was worth $68.50

"It was nice to see (that half), thought I really didn't mean to go that slow," Morgan said. "He did get tortured  last week (in the Preferred), so I'm glad it wasn't nearly as tough tonight.

"He came in (to the Levy Series) with a late start and didn't race well in his last two starts then (pair of fifths)," Morgan said. "He was sluggish leaving the gate, and just wasn't the same horse that I know. It's a shame he didn't round into form a few weeks ago, but there's been such a drastic difference the last couple of starts." (Yonkers)
