Jet takes flight in Levy

With Tony Morgan driving for trainer Tom Harmer, Jereme's Jet scorched his five rivals in the first of three $50,000 divisions of the fourth leg of the Levy Series at Yonkers Saturday night, wiring the field under wraps in 1:52.1. Pacific Playboy (Stephane Bouchard) was the bridesmaid, beaten a non-threatening length-and-a-half, with Pacific Renegade (Tim Tetrick) along for third.

"Great horse. Best I've ever driven on a half," Morgan said. "He doesn't need a racetrack. He can race anywhere. He had a few little holdups early in the season, and Tom (Harmer) wanted to be extra cautious.

"The only other (Levy) horse here who can get past the first turn like him is Special Report," Morgan said.

Owned by Genesis Racing Stable, Jereme’s Jet was making his second start of the year after a season debut victory at Pompano Park April 7.

After Jereme's Jet threw down the gauntlet, Keystone Rodeo (Tetrick) was more than qualified to scoop it up.

The 7-year-old son of Western Hanover turned in the fastest mile of the series to date, a blistering, two-move 1:51.2 in the evening's middle Levy grouping.

The winner, co-owned by Fred & Anita Fialkow and trained by Kevin Lare, returned $4.90 for his fifth victory in 15 seasonal starts. Cheyenne Hollywood (Pat Lachance) was second, beaten 4 1/2 lengths, with Whosurboy (Bouchard) grabbing the bottom of the ticket.

"He was tremendous last week racing four-deep in the final turn (beaten a nose)," Tetrick said. "I never saw one close that much ground here. Tonight, I wanted to get away from as many of the others as I could, and he just exploded."

Saturday night's final Levy trial went to the aforementioned Special Report, now with two wins and two seconds in his four series efforts.

Larry Stalbaum sent the 5-year-old Keystone Raider gelding up and over Eyes On Kassa (Tetrick) before the opening (:27.1) quarter-mile, and these two had the rest of the race to themselves  Special Report held "Eyes" at bay, winning by a length-and-three-quarters in 1:51.4, two ticks away from his own aged gelding track record.

True Force (Jim Meittinis) closed to grab third.

Special Report is owned by Hugo Iodice and trained by Kim Asher. (Yonkers Raceway)
