James M. “Jim” Crebs, 74, an owner, trainer and driver, known for the success of the top Illinois pacing filly Fox Valley Redhot and her offspring, died Saturday, April 18, at his home in Cantrall, Ill., after a long illness.
Crebs owned, trained, and drove the 1989 Illinois Horse of the Year, Fox Valley Redhot, p, 2, 1:54.2 ($257,038), who later won honors as the state’s Broodmare of the Year. Her offspring include Hot Chilli Pepper p,3, 1:51.1 ($486,214), Ithinki'msomebody p, 1:50 ($344,187), RH Positive p,3, 1:52.4 ($182,322), Redhot Chilli Dog p,3, 1:53.1 ($178,796), R Roan Ranger p, 1:53.1f ($131,044) and She's Redhot p, 1:52.3 ($116,375).
He was survived by his wife, Donna Crebs; a son, Tony Crebs of Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Mitts of Quincy, Ill.; and a nephew.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. 5th St. in Springfield, Ill., and funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, also at the funeral home. (with USTA reports)
