Jordan’s Jewell has been named Illinois County Fair Horse of the Month by the Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Bureau of County Fairs and Horse Racing.
The PrairieState’s county fair season kicked off June 13 at the Decatur-MaconCounty fair in Decatur, and will conclude September 4 in Sandwich at the DeKalbCounty fair.Jordan’s Jewell was selected for the period from June 13 through July 15.Successive honorees will be named August 15 and September 4.
Jordan’s Jewell, a 2-year-old pacing daughter sired by Mantese from the Ideal Society mare Loafster is undefeated through five starts at the fairs.Bred by Ron and Deloris Phillips of Petersburg, IL. the filly is owned, trained, and driven by Freddie Patton Jr. of Clinton, MS.She took her mark of 2:00 in track record fashion at the Jasper County Fair in Newton, Il. June 29 and has earned over $5,000.
Randy Callahan, associate judge at the Newton meet said, “Jordan’s Jewell cut the mile with Smashy Cerise (Kelcey Perrymond) in hot pursuit, who was also undefeated at the time.Jordan’s Jewell held off her late charge in the lane to win in a new track record for 2-year-old pacing fillies.That was probably the best horse race I’ve seen this year.”
