Josh Marks, assistant trainer in the Tracy Brainard Stable, has had his Kentucky racing license revoked by the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority (KHRA) and he has been ruled off the grounds at The Red Mile as of Monday, Oct. 5. Marks was notified of the revocation on Saturday morning, Oct. 3, one day after KHRA investigators did a search of Brainard's barn at The Red Mile.
Harnessracing.com was told nothing illegal was found during the search. However, Marks's license, which was a groom's license, was revoked when the KHRA discovered that he failed to disclose on his Kentucky application that he was deemed ineligible by the New Jersey Racing Commission to receive a racing license in that state.
This is the second time in just over a week that Marks, who turns 27 on Oct. 11, has had licensing issues. He was asked to leave the Jugette barn and paddock at Delaware, Ohio, following the stable's win with Showherthemoney in the Jugette when the Ohio Racing Commission discovered he had not applied for a license in that state. Marks was at the fairgrounds the following day for the Little Brown Jug, and although he was not allowed in the paddock, he came onto the track to lead If I Can Dream into the winner's circle following that colt's win in a Jug elimination.
The Brainard Stable currently ranks eighth on the North American win list with 184 victories in 710 starts, and its earnings of more than $6 million place it second behind only Ron Burke.
