J P hits the jackpot in Yonkers feature

December 06, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

J P Jackpot (Jason Bartlett, four wins on the 13-race card), who missed a head in each of his last two tries, earned a measure of Yonkers Raceway revenge Saturday night, winning the $40,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Leaving from post position No. 2 after an inside defection, J P Jackpot patrolled the pocket while Wholly Louy (Jeff Gregory) led through intervals of :27, :55.3 and 1:23.4.

King Cat Anvil N (Jordan Stratton), last week's winner, offered only a timid, first-up challenge this night. Despite that--and the presence of just five rivals--"Louy" was done in and out of the final turn. J P Jackpot slipped inside, getting the jumpon Biletnikoff (Mike Micallef) and beating that one by a length in 1:52.2. That effort matched his personal best.

Tasmanian Daniel (Larry Stalbaum), King Cat Anvil N and 17-10 choice Psilvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis) completed the cashers, while pace-setting Wholly Louy came away with lovely parting gifts.

For J P Jackpot, a 5-year-old Stand Forever gelding trained by Jody Dunning for Canadian co-owners Ian Fromowitz and John Fielding, he returned  $14.60 (fifth choice) for his third victory in 15 aseasonal starts. The exacta paid $82, with the triple worth $395. (Yonkers)
