Earlier in the morning, trainer Joe Holloway stood near Allways A Virgin's stall in the Jug barn, with the 3-year-old colt pacer hanging his head over the gate in hopes of catching a breeze from the fan located nearby. Holloway, who shipped that Jug contender as well as Fresh Deck to Delaware on Sunday, told harnessracing.com Always A Virgin is coming into Thursday's Jug as good as he could be.

Always A Virgin is riding a five-race win streak heading into the Little Brown Jug, with his last loss coming in the Meadowlands Pace when he made a late break after getting inadvertently hit with the whip in the testicles by driver Brian Sears.

"It's too bad because he could have won that, but those things happen," said Holloway. "But he's been as good as ever since."

Back to Wednesday's card, Michigan-based trainer Rob Harmon swept the first-race trifecta when Byzanz, De Niro G and Callico Cat finished first, second and third, respectively. Byzanz, who scored the 1:57 win, was driven by Ryan Stahl. Coupled in the wagering with just De Niro G (common ownership), the entry returned $2.20 to win.

Dein Spriggs owns the winning 8-year-old gelded son of Bosphorous. The win was his 54th in 87 career starts, with the winner's share of the $5,000 purse increasing his earnings to more than $138,000.
