Jug Preview adds supps.

Owners of 3-year-old pacers who failed to nominate or sustain for the Jug Preview at Scioto Downs will now have the option of supplementing this year for $6,000. This important prep race for the Little Brown Jug is slated for Sept. 8.

Director of racing Stacy Cahill announced that if a horse meets Scioto’s qualifying standards but is not otherwise eligible, supplemental payments will be taken on the Jug Preview.

The nominating fee of $400 is due Feb. 15 and a $750 sustaining payment is due March 15. The starting fee is $2,000 if there are no more than two divisions. If there are more divisions, the starting fee will be $1,500.

Scioto Downs will add an estimated $80,000, including all supplemental payments, to the final purse, which is estimated at $225,000.

Many winners of Scioto’s Jug Preview have gone on to win the big race at Delaware a few weeks later, including P-Forty-Seven in 2005, Nick’s Fantasy, Magical Mike and Precious Bunny.

All horses must show a line in 1:58 or faster without a break within 30 days of the race.
