Jug winner bypasses Crown

Timesareachanging, who appeared to have taken control of the 3-year-old colt pace division after capturing the Little Brown Jug last month, is a notable absence from Saturday night's Breeders Crown festivities as trainer Brett Pelling decided to keep the horse in his stall. Pelling isn't without a starter in the Crown for sophomore colt pacers though as he has Western Terror, who is coming off a career-best 1:48.3 victory in a Tattersalls division Oct. 9 at The Red Mile.

"I wasn't 100 percent happy with him in the Tattersalls," Pelling said about Timesareachanging's third-place finish in a second Tattersalls division, the colt's last start. "I never really prepped him for that race but he came out of it with a better-than-elevated blood count. I just decided to not put him in (the Breeders Crown).

"He likes a little rest. If I had made a little mistake, it's that I wish I had taken him home after the Jug. But I wasn't going to be there so we just (took him to Lexington)," he added.

Both Timesareachanging and Western Terror are owned by David Brooks' Perfect World Enterprises, and Pelling said the owner also entered the Nat Varty-trained Geartogear into the Crown race.

"If I didn't have another horse to put in I probably would have raced him, but I have Western Terror who is going great guns and Brooks (David Brooks) also owns Geartogear," Pelling said. "(David Brooks) had two horses in there already, I don't think he needed three."

As for Timesareachanging, he has plenty of dances left on his dance card in 2004. "There are a lot of races left," Pelling said. "He still has the Progress, the Matron, the Dancer, the Windy City. Right now he's just getting ready for that."
