Julie Miller has joined the field of women drivers who will compete in Monticello Raceway’s Lady Godiva Pace on Monday afternoon, Feb. 15. Miller is a outstanding conditioner and the trainer of Lucky Jim, the Dan Patch Award winner as USHWA’s Older Trotter of the Year who will be honored at the scribes' upcoming banquet at Yonkers Casino & Raceway.
Miller’s training percentage during the 2009 season was a lofty .409 and her charges collectively earned over $3.6 million on the strength of 151 winners in 535 starts.
Though she is very happy leaving the driving to her hubby, Andy Miller, Julie knows her way around the racetrack too. Though she only drove in 10 pari-mutuel races last season, she won three times and had three seconds and one third for a UDR of .500.
When asked if she’d like to compete in this year’s Lady Godiva Pace, Julie wasted no time in saying yes.
“I appreciate being asked and I would love to drive in the Lady Godiva Pace,” she told the Mighty M’s publicity department. “We (she and Andy) probably won’t have too many of our own racing that day and all I need to know now is what is post time and when do I have to be there.” The track's publicity department replied, “First post that day will be at 12:25 p.m. and you will be informed after the post position draw as to the best time for you to be here.”
Last season’s Lady Godiva Pace winner, Doreen Dailey; two-time LGP winner Jody Riedel; previous LGP winners , Betsy Philips and Terry Donnelly all have given notice that they plan to return to compete once again and Eric Warner, the track's director of racing, said he also has confirmation from Stacy Chiodo, Jennifer Lappe and Danielle Beaulieu.
The Mighty M’s Lady Godiva Pace will be the first leg of Ann Curran’s Mildred Williams International Women’s Driving Series which will continue until the late fall with contests in both the United States and Canada. The second leg of that series will be hosted by Yonkers Raceway on Feb. 20. (Monticello)
