Just The Begrinning ran his current win streak to four while Clowns Smile turned in the fastest mile in Saturday night's trio of $20,000 Ontario Sired Autumn Series eliminations for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Woodbine Racetrack.
With regular driver Jody Jamieson at the controls, Just The Begrinning sat fourth in the early going and then made a powerful first-over move in the third quarter to grab control as the field turned for home. The gelded son of Grinfromeartoear turned in a snappy :27.1 final quarter to score in 1:53.1 over Aces Alone and Raw Energy.
It was the fourth consecutive and fifth overall win this season for Just The Begrinning who is owned by Canamerica Capital Corp., David Ramsay and trainer Mike Brealey. Clowns Smile went straight to the front for Roger Mayotte in the second elimination in a :25.2 first quarter and then cruised to a 1:52 victory, the fastest of the three splits. The gelded son of Grinfromeartoearposted a 3 1/2-length win over Lucky Secret and Mint Smoothie. It was the sixth win of the campaign in 26 outings for Clowns Smile who is trained by Michael Grant for owner Ellis Bryant Inc. of Louisville, Ky. Goose Creek picked up his first win of the season in the final elimination with a sharp 1:52.1 effort for driver Mike Saftic. The son of Camluck-Jacks Creek went to the front from post nine and did not look back in winning over Luckywhitesocks and Totally Excellent. It marks the only win this season in 18 outings for the gelding who is owned by Cyril Hayes, Kenneth Ewen, Debbie Bird and trainer Barry Bird. The $51,700 Ontario Sired Autumn Series final will go next Saturday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
