Karen Garland, who races horses with her partner Steve Smith, suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in New Jersey on Friday. Garland had various broken bones and had undergone surgery by Saturday.
The accident occurred on Kozloski Road. Garland, 44, of Plainville, Mass., was transported to the trauma unit of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after the accident, which was reported a little before 1:30 pm.
According to report in the Asbury Park Press, a Monmouth County official said the accident happened between Route 79 and Dutch Lane Road when Michael Palmieri, 34, of Manalapan, NJ, driving a black Mercedes S-550 east on Kozloski Road, moved into the oncoming lanes and collided with the black Hyundai sport-utility vehicle operated by Garland. Palmieri also suffered injuries, but the extent was not available.
Neither vehicle had passengers.
