Karpathos ($4.60) has found his niche as of late, scoring his second straight win in the $16,000 Open Trot at the Isle Pompano Park Monday with a 1:55.2 score. Driven to victory by Joe Pavia Jr. for trainer-owner Geoff Howles of Pompano Beach, Karpathos took the early lead away from Guy Gets Girl (Bruce Ranger) by the opening quarter mile in :28.2 and then said goodbye to the field. Leading the race past the half-mile marker in :57.3 and then the three-quarters in 1:25.4 as Farmer Jones and driver Walter Ross Jr. came first-over in the backstretch. Farmer Jones pressed the leaders but faded in the stretch as Pavia had Karpathos in complete control and they went on to win by a half length over Battleshoe Victor (Anthony Napolitano) with Guy Gets Girl third.
An 8-year-old gelding by Balanced Image, it was career victory number 38 for Karpathos. (Pompano)
