February 15, 2013 | Print View

Longtime racing official and Ohio native Gregg Keidel has been hired for the position of Racing Secretary for the 2013 Raceway Park, meet which gets under way on April 27.

"Gregg brings a wealth of knowledge and over 30 years experience to the position. Given his many years of previous work in Ohio it will give Raceway Park a Race Secretary that will be well connected to the horsemen.” said Mark Loewe, Vice President of Ohio Racing Operations for Penn National Gaming. "Gregg will be a great asset to the team and we look forward to an exciting 2013 racing season,” Loewe added.

Keidel previously served as Director of Racing at Northfield Park from 1982 to 2010 and has worked as Director of Racing/Racing Secretary at Running Aces Harness Park since 2008. Keidel also serves as an Associate Judge at Pompano Park during the winter months.

"This will be a unique situation this year as due to previous commitments, Gregg will do much of the work remotely. With the assistance of longtime racing department assistant Deb Shaner I have no doubt that this will be a smooth transition,” Loewe added.

"I'm pleased to be joining the Penn National team and becoming part of the exciting racing renaissance that is taking place in Ohio. I was very fortunate that this seasonal appointment at Raceway Park fit in nicely with my other duties in Minnesota and Florida. My goal is to make the 2013 season in Toledo the best it can possibly be while positioning the product for an exciting future in the coming years," said Keidel.

Racing applications for the 42 night meet will be available at http://www.racewayparktoledo.com/ by March 1. The meet will commence April 27 and race every Saturday and Sunday evening through September 14. (Rosecroft)
