Kenneth J ties Lex mark

Metro Pace winner Yankee Skyscaper won the first of four International Stallion Stakes divisions for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers Friday afternoon at The Red Mile, crossing the wire in a career-best 1:52.1 with driver Jody Jamieson.

The son of Artiscape won for the fourth time in eight starts, with Spin Rate second and Mr. Apples third. Chris Ryder trains the winner for owner Yankee Skyscaper Partners of Versailles, Ky. The winner's share of the $92,500 purse increased his earnings to more than $544,250.

Kenneth J equaled The Red Mile track record for freshman colt pacers with a 1:50.3 victory in the second $92,500 division. Driver Ron Pierce rallied the son of Bettor's Delight to to edge past Cue The Paige and Artriverderci, who finished in a dead heat for second.

The win was Kenneth J's sixth straight and seventh overall in nine attempts. The New York Sire Stakes champion is owned by Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and trained by Linda Toscano. His earnings now stand at $265,740.

Southwind Lynx won the third division in 1:51.4 for driver Andy Miller. The son of Real Artist defeated Big Al's Delight and Benzley Mindale after a tough stretch battle. A son of Real Artist, Southwind Lynx is trained by George Teague, who shares ownership with his sister, Brenda, and K&R Racing. The win was a career best for Southwind Lynx.

The fourth division to a determined Island Delight, who won at odds of 10-1 in 1:53.3. Jamieson got his second winner of the day with the son of Bettor's Delight, who defeated Digital Z Tam and Poker Hat. Duane Marfisi trains the winner for Uncirculated Stable of Hamilton, Ont. The win was his third in nine starts and a career best.
