Some members have requested the link to the actual wording on HB 158 (the “slots” bill). This is excellent, because it is not until you read the details (hard as that often is) that you understand what legislators are actually voting on. Also, be aware that there are changes made to the bill by the bill’s sponsor right up until the moment it is submitted for voting, and there can be floor amendments by other legislators at the time the vote is taken. Letting your representative know how you feel about the bill as you understand it is important. HB 158 was originally scheduled for a Feb. 4 vote but that has been postponed due to a parliamentary procedure issue. The new date has not been announced. When you read the bill, pay particular attention to Sections 39 & 40 that addresses funds going to non-race breeds, and who makes decisions about this money. We have been working with KEEP to try to open the decision making authority on these funds to include more of the horse community (beyond breed representatives), but with limited success. We want you all to know that we are working for you, and watching as this bill unfolds. Here is the link to the full bill: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/09RS/HB158.htm -- (Kentucky Horse Council)
