James "Bucky" Buchanan Jr., a trainer-driver on the Kentucky circuit, died this past weekend. He was 61. Mr. Buchanan was born in Danville, Ky. and was active in the sport for more than 20 years. As a driver, he piloted 83 horses to $160,178 in earnings, while his trainees won 33 times and cashed $61,562 in checks. His last starts were on Sept. 6, 2009 at The Red Mile.
