Keystone Activator cruises to Primo Spur victory

Keystone Activator, parked the entire first quarter, was unassailable when he made the front, taking the $30,200 Primo Spur Trot final for 3-year-old colts and geldings Monday at The Meadows.

Eric Ledford gave Keystone Activator a :30.1 breather the second panel, and that was all the son of SJ’s Caviar-Armbro Blusher needed to cruise home in 1:55.4, the fastest mile this season for a sophomore trotting colt on a five-eighths mile track. Photoforwin trotted evenly in the pocket to be second by 1 1/2 lengths, while Gold’n Chip Chip rallied for show.

Jim Raymer trains Keystone Activator, who briefly held the five-eighths mile track world record for 2-year-old colts, at 1:55.2, for Tammie Raymer and Trillium Racing Stable. The victory pushed the colt’s career bankroll to $129,959.

Not to be outdone, Rembrandt Spur painted a masterpiece in the $15,000 Primo Spur consolation with a wire-to-wire win in 1:55.3, best this year for a 3-year-old gelding trotter on a five-eighths mile track. Royal Eagle was 7 1/4 lengths back, in second, with KT Dixie Player a distant third.

Dick Stillings drove and trains Rembrandt Spur, a son of Pegasus Spur-Marty E, for Roy Davis.

On a card full of records, it was not surprising that Marty’s Charm took one of his own, capturing the $25,000 Preferred Handicap pace in 1:50, the fastest mile ever at The Meadows by an older gelding pacer. The time not only lowered the previous mark of 1:50.4, held jointly by Silverlinedpocket and Georgia Pacific, but it also was only two ticks off The Meadows all-age record.

Civil Attack was second by four lengths, while Pacey Deucey saved show. Randy Tharps drove Marty’s Charm, a 5-year-old gelded son of Aces N’ Sevens-Bets Mae, for Martha and Gerald Baluck. (The Meadows)
