Keystone Sophie held off a handful of rivals at the wire to win the $26,000 Mares Open Pace on Tuesday at Dover Downs, while Ron Pierce continued his multiple-win nights this meet chalking up six wins.
Jon Roberts moved Kellytuck Sophie off the rail at the head of the lane and the Cam's Magic Trick-Kellytuck Ann 7 year old overtook the leader Apache Dame (Ross Wolfenden) to take the lead on the way to a 1:52.4 victory in the $26,000 distaff feature race. Bib Roberts trains and co-owns Kellytuck Sophie with M&W and Graham Grace stables. It was her sixth win of the year bringing her seasonal earnings to $95,270. Chloes Silver Star finished second with Pierce ahead of the Eric Goodlell-driven Perfect M Forever.
Trainer Tony Domino and Richard Lester completed a trainer-owner double when Pierce picked up his fifth win on the card steering Alice's Restaurant home in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:53.3 to win the $18,000 mares pace. The Western Ideal-Alice Alice 4 year old won for the fifth time this year extending her purses this season to $76,327. Itz Cherry Ripe N (George Dennis) used the passing lane to finish second. Keystone Rhythm (Wolfenden) took a shot at the winner around the final turn and held on for third.
Robert Messick's homebred Pacific Philly showed her class in the stretch recording a 1:53.1 decision, her second straight victory. Corey Callahan guided the Pacific Fella-Raani Hanover 6 year old to her fifth success of the season. She has now banked $1120,400 this year. Rafaella Seelster (Mike Cole) closed for second with Rusty Again (Bret Brittingham) third.
Hello Magic is in rare form. The Wayne Givens-owned and trained 5 year old won for the second straight time this meet and sixth time in her last seven outings. Vince Copeland drove Hello Magic to a 1:54.1 triumph besting HL Showbiz (Pierce) and Western Bonbon (Wolfenden) to win a Delaware $10,000-$12,500 mares claiming race. (Dover Downs)
