Return Home
April 29, 2012 | Print View

Eight eliminations of the famed Swedish stakes, King Gustav V's Trophy and Queen Silvia's Trophy for 4-year-old trotters homebred and foreignbred trotters were raced Sunday afternoon at the Åby-track in Gothenburg. The top three from each advance to the finals which will be raced with $135,000 going to each winner.

The King Gustav V's Trophy has a certain favorite, as the totally dominating colt of last season, Brad de Veluwe (Andover Hall - Amazing Ride by Muscles Yankee), has returned to the races perfectly and has come back good as a 4 year old. He won his elimination superiorly ahead of the brave U.S import,
Attorney Hanover (Angus Hall - Astraea Hanover) and Swedishbred Panne de Moteur (Credit Winner).
Trainer Tuomas Korvenoja guided him to a 1:58.1 rated win over 2,140 meters.

Dontellmewhattodo (Offshore Dream - Possessive Lilly by Self Possessed), Edward Ale (Here Comes Herbie - Mustang Donna by Pine Chip), Opitergium (Pine Chip - Jovelinotte by Passionant) were the other three winners In the final entered. Also advancing is the U.S-bred Fawkes (S.J.'s Caviar).

The most impressive of the mare winners was the recent import Love N Hate (Muscles Yankee-R.Heavenly Hills-Balanced Image) who won wire to wire for her trainer Åke Savanstedt in the new track racord for 4-year-old mares of 1:58.2 for the 2,140 meters.

The classy Canadian bred mare, Crys Dream (Taurus Dream - Crysta's Image by Balanced Image) with much more North American merits tired after a slow start and then a fast challenge that led to a trip outside the leader.

Jumble As (Tagliabue-Judy As by Mack Lobell for Peter Untersteiner, Jolene af Solnäs (Mr Pine Chip - Jasmine af Solnäs by Biesolo) for Åke Svanstedt and Askens Valencia (Rite On Line - Staro Ultima by Gazoulis) for Ulf Ohlsson took the other three eliminations.--by Lars G. Palm
