Kohlers express interest

Trainer Bob McIntosh has told The Horseman that Michigan-based owners Ron and Mike Kohler have expressed interest in purchasing Windsor Raceway, which has been shut down since Jan. 1 after being denied a 2005 racing license from the Ontario Racing Commission.

"It's just turned into a bad situation," said McIntosh, who trains and shares an interest in horses owned by the father and son duo. "They mentioned it to me quite a while ago, and when this new deal came up they mentioned it again. This has been a public relations disaster for Windsor Raceway.

"(The Kohlers) are legitimately interested in buying the track. They can put together the people to get the job done."

Windsor raced 153 days in 2004 but requested 121 for 2005, an amount later amended to 112, which the Ontario Harness Horse Association vehemently opposes. The result of the shutdown is the layoff of about 150 employees. The slot machine parlor is not affected by the situation and remains open.

Windsor Raceway is currently owned by Tandem Entertainment, of which Anthony Toldo Jr. is listed as chairman.

"If he wants to sell it, I've got the buyers," said McIntosh. "We're willing to sit down and talk about it."
