Ky. Drug Council meets

A meeting of the new Kentucky Horse Racing Drug Council was held Wednesday at the Kentucky Horse Park, and Gov. Ernie Fletcher greeted the council members as they convened for the first time since 2003.



The council is charged with reviewing and probably rewriting Kentucky's horse racing drug rules and policies. At the first meeting, council member Alan Leavitt of Walnut Hall Ltd. reviewed the drug rules and policies for Standardbred racing. Also, Kentucky Horse Racing Authority executive director Jim Gallagher told the council members of Kentucky's unique drug rules pertaining to Thoroughbred racing.



The council will meet again in January to review Thoroughbred drug rules and lay the groundwork for making recommendations to the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority.
