Ky's Gallagher resigns

Kentucky Horse Racing Authority executive director Jim Gallagher has announced his resignation effective Oct. 1. Gallagher was the authority’s first executive director, appointed to the position in September 2004 by Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

"As you well know, I left my wife, family and elderly parents in New York to come to Kentucky and steer the day-to-day operation of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority ..." Gallagher wrote to Gov. Fletcher in tendering his resignation. "Unfortunately, it has become increasingly difficult for me to balance my personal family commitments and my professional aspirations."

Gallagher came to Kentucky after working for the New York Racing Association as vice president of regulatory compliance and vice president of pari-mutuel operations.
