Longtime Kentucky Horse Racing Authority director of Standardbred racing Marc Guilfoil has told harnessracing.com he has retired from his position as of June 1. Guilfoil, who served as presiding steward at the harness racetracks across the Bluegrass State, was instrumental in the recent rewriting of Kentucky's Standardbred racing regulations.
"I'm going to go to culinary school in Paris, France, and learn the great art of preparing delicacies," Guilfoil said tongue-in-cheek when asked what his future plans are. Guilfoil had worked for the state's racing bodies for approximately 20 years.
There is now word on Guilfoil's replacement as director. An interim steward is expected to be used at the upcoming meet at The Red Mile, which is scheduled to begin in early August and run through the two-week Grand Circuit stand in early October.
