Ladyfield, one of the local season's top rags-to-riches stories, won the $26,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace on a distaff loaded, foggy Tuesday, Dec. 11, program at Dover Downs.
Purchased late last season with only around $3,500 on her card, Ladyfield won for the 12th time this season, bringing her 2007 bankroll to $166,011 for the Keelers, mother Joyce, her daughter, Kathleen, and her daughter-in-law, Linda.
Tony Morgan took the Armbro Cadet 4-year-old right to the lead and they were never headed in a 1:51.2 career fastest victory. Yada Yada Yada A charged up at the three-quarters to challenge, but the Ross Wofenden-driven 7-year-old could only get to within a length of the winner before reaching the wire in a :54 last half. Fritzie Bunnie sat second the mile for Mike Cole and had to settle for third. The odds-on favorite, Stonebridge Kisses with Tim Tetrick in the bike, closed from sixth but could get only as close as fourth. The $16,000 distaff pace turned into an Easter Egg Hunt two weeks before Christmas. Roger Plante drove Jim Sita and Karen Feeney's Easter Egg Hunt between horses to overtake Ozmopolitan (Tim Tetrick) in the final steps en route to a 1:52.3 score. I'm All In (Tony Morgan) was third in the photo finish.
Meet leading driver Tony Morgan had five wins to bring his track total for the meet to 86, while runner-up Tim Tetrick has 73. Jim Morand made the winner's circle three times. (Dover Downs)
