Lady Maud Pace attracts 14 fillies, Artimittateslife supplements

Fourteen 3-year-old fillies have been entered for Yonkers Raceway's Lady Maud Pace, with a total purse of $421,030. The in-box influx necessitated a pair of $20,000 eliminations events, going as race Nos. 5 and 8 during Friday night's 13-rzce soiree. The first four finishers in each trial return for the $381,020 final, set for Saturday night, Oct. 25.

The connections of  New York Sire Stakes champion Artimittateslife took $30,000 from her retirement account to become the lone supplemental entrant into this season's Lady Maud. She drew post position No. 6 in the second elimination, with Stephane Bouchard doing the honors.

The daughter of Art Major returns to Westchester on a roll, with four consecutive victories. After winning the $175,000 NYSS final here in mid-September, "Artimittates" went back home across the border, winning her $35,313 division of the Trillium at Mohawk. This past Saturday night, she won a hard-fought, $122,500 Courageous Lady at Northfield.

Artimittateslife, trained locally by Ed Hart for the Canadian contingent of Bob Young, Paul Gazzola and Brian Barton, has won 10 of her 15 seasonal starts ($540,389).

Thong (Driver TBA, post 7) is back for her first visit since winning her elim and the ($325,230) final of thw Lismore Pace in early July, while Knock Three Times (Dave Miller, post 4) enters after winning her $122,300 division of the Garnsey at the Red Mile.

The first stakes elimination includes Jugette winner Good News Lady (Greg Grismore, post 2)--a fast-closing second to Thong in the Lismore--hooking up with New Jersey Sire Stakes standouts Happy Dreamer (Andy Miller, post 4) and Cheyenne Trish (Jim Meittinis, post 5).

Good News Lady, with more than $520,000 on account this season, has three wins, a second a two thirds in her last seven tries.

The fields for the elims of the Lady Maud, with declared drivers...(First elim, 5th race) 1--Sand Pleasure (Jason Bartlett); 2-Good News Lady (Greg Grismore); 3-Loving Caroline (Yannick Gingras); 4-Happy Dreamer (Andy Miller); 5-Cheyenne Trish (Jim Meittinis); 6-See and Be Seen (George Brennan); 7-A and G'sconfusion (Dave Miller).

Second elim (8th race)...1-Hannah Isabel (Gingras); 2-Ladycino (Cat Manzi); 3-Riverbank Hanover (Sam Schillaci); 4-Knock Three Times (Dave Miller); 5-Stylish Artist (Dave Miller also listed); 6-Artimmitateslife (Stephane Bouchard); 7-Thong (Driver TBA). 

The entry box for the $625,000 (est.) Messenger Stakes closes tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 14), at 4 PM ET. Eliminations (if necessary) are scheduled for this Saturday night, with the final set for Saturday night, Oct. 25.  World champion Somebeachsomewhere and Adios/Little Brown Jug/Windy City winner Shadow Play--he a $60,000 suppemental entrant--collide.
